GigaDisk Connection Instructions

MacOS X

To connect to your GigaDisk on a computer using MacOS X:

  • Switch to the Finder
  • Select 'Go -> Connect to Server'.
  • In the dialog box that appears, enter http://USERNAME.gigadisk.org (where USERNAME is the USERNAME name you were emailed when you first signed up for your GigaDisk).
  • Click the + sign, which adds it to your list of favorite locations.
  • Click 'Connect'.
  • Enter the username and password that were emailed to you. If you've changed your password, use the password you entered when you changed it. If you do not wish to type these in the future, please make sure that the 'Save this information to your keychain' box is checked.
  • Click OK.

Your GigaDisk will appear on the desktop, and you can begin using it immediately.

Windows Vista

  • Open the Start menu and select Computer
  • Click Map network drive in the toolbar at the top of the Computer window
  • Select a drive letter in the drop-down menu,
  • Enter http://USERNAME.gigadisk.org/ in the box. Replace USERNAME with the username that was emailed to you.
  • Enter your username and password. Vista may ask for your password multiple times. Make sure your username is the one that was emailed to you and that Vista has not added more to it.

Your GigaDisk network drive should now be mounted and ready to use.

Windows XP

  • Click Start -> My Computer -> My Network Places.
  • Click 'Add a network place' under 'Network Tasks'. This will launch the 'Add Network Place Wizard'.
  • Click 'Next' to continue past the introduction screen.
  • Select 'Choose another network location' from the list of Service providers.
  • Click Next.
  • Enter http://USERNAME.gigadisk.org:80/ in the box. Replace USERNAME with the username that was emailed to you. If you are using Windows XP and have not installed Service Pack 2, this may not work. Please use Windows Update to update your software.
  • Click Next.
  • Windows should ask for a username and password. Enter these, click to remember your password if you like, and click Ok.
    (Note that windows may pop up the dialog box asking you for your username and password several times.)
  • Enter a shortcut name if you like, or click Next.
  • If you want Windows to open your GigaDisk when you finish, check the appropriate box.
  • Click Finish
  • Windows should ask you for a username and password. Enter the username and password that was emailed to you.
  • Your GigaDisk will appear in My Network Places under 'The Internet'

Windows 2000

  • Double-Click My Network Places on your desktop.
  • Double-Click Add Network Place.
  • In the box, type: http://USERNAME.gigadisk.org (where USERNAME is the USERNAME name you were emailed when you first signed up for your GigaDisk).
  • Click Next.
  • A dialog box will pop up requesting your username and password.
  • Enter the username and password that were emailed to you. If you've changed your password, use the password you entered when you changed it.
  • If this is your computer and it is secure, you can click 'Save this password in your password list' to have Windows remember your password. This will make it easier for your to connect in the future.
  • Click Ok.
  • Click Finish. Windows may ask for your username and password again.
  • A window to your GigaDisk should open. Use it like you would any other disk. Enjoy!

MacOS 8.1 - 9.2.x

Your GigaDisk uses a web-standard protocol called 'WebDAV' (the same protocol used by Apple's iDisk).
MacOS 8 and 9 do not natively support the WebDAV protocol.

You can use your GigaDisk on OS 8.1 - 9.2.x by downloading a freeware program called 'Goliath':
